Selena Gomez released her new song, “Single Soon,” last Friday, and fans started theorizing about the inspiration behind her lyrics.
However, Gomez denied speculations that the breakup song had anything to do with The Weeknd.
“It couldn't be farther from the truth,” she commented on an Instagram post that hinted at The Weeknd being her muse.
Throughout the song, the 31-year-old sings about the end of a relationship – and mentions “the weekend” specifically.
“Should I break up over the phone? / Should I leave a little note in his jacket pocket? (Yeah) / Maybe I'll just disappear / I don't wanna see a tear / And the weekend's almost here,” the lyrics say.
Gomez and The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, were in a relationship for 10 months in 2017. During their breakup, it was reported that The Weeknd was focusing on his career rather than his personal life.
The Weeknd was later rumored to be in a relationship with Angelina Jolie, DJ Chantel Jeffries, and influencer Simi Khadra.
