The 71st Eurovision Song Contest will officially take place in Burgas, Bulgaria. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Bulgarian National Television (BNT) confirmed the coastal destination as the official host location for the 2027 competition, marking the very first time the event will be held in the country.
Bulgaria earned hosting rights after singer Dara won the 2026 contest in Vienna with her track “Bangaranga.” Her victory delivered the nation its first win in Eurovision history, kicking off a competitive bidding process among domestic venues eager to host the upcoming edition.
The main event will be staged at Arena Burgas, a modern multi-purpose facility opened in 2023. The choice follows an evaluation process involving four candidate cities: Burgas, Sofia, Varna, and Plovdiv. Burgas and Sofia reached the final stage of selection before organizers ultimately picked the coastal location.
According to the EBU, Burgas stood out due to its technical infrastructure at the arena, accommodation capacity, transit options, and overall international connectivity. The venue offers the necessary modern facilities to meet the complex technical demands of a large-scale television broadcast.
Eurovision Song Contest Director Martin Green noted that Burgas offers a distinct cultural atmosphere alongside the physical capacity needed for the event. He stated that organizers aim to deliver an authentic local feel for Bulgaria’s debut hosting turn while preserving the traditional format of the show.
“Burgas brings something genuinely special to the Eurovision Song Contest. It is a vibrant, welcoming city on the Black Sea coast with the ambition, infrastructure, and passion required to host the Eurovision family.”
Representatives from BNT expressed enthusiasm about sharing Bulgarian culture, hospitality, and broadcasting standards with an international audience of millions. Operational planning and production preparations have officially entered an active phase following the announcement.
The dates for Eurovision 2027 are set for May 11 through May 15. The first semi-final will run on Tuesday, May 11, followed by the second semi-final on Thursday, May 13. The grand final will take place on Saturday, May 15.
For Burgas and the broader region, hosting the 71st edition represents a notable milestone on the international entertainment stage, bringing global broadcast media directly to the Black Sea coast.
