Malta will become the first country in Europe to close its borders to anyone who is not fully vaccinated against the coronavirus. The decision was made after the increase of cases with Covid-19 in the country.
Only citizens who have a British or European vaccination certificate will be allowed to enter the country, starting July 14, Health Minister Chris Fearne announced, hinting that American tourists and others will be banned.
“We will be the first country in Europe to take this step.” he said.
Malta has been hailed as a European success story for its vaccination campaign, with 79% of the adult population currently fully vaccinated. Previously, Malta could also be visited by tourists from the rest of the EU, the US and other countries who were provided with a negative PCR test or who were fully vaccinated.
