Potdsdam Royals of the German Football League has signed the Albanian NFL athlete in the US, striker Kristian Sokoli.
He was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in 2015 after an impressive collegiate career at the University of Buffaois where he played alongside future NFL defender Khalil Mack.
American media bring the story of Christian’s emigration. Kristian’s father, Gjoni, fled Albania in the late 1990s to seek political asylum after the overthrow of the communist regime. His mother joined John two years later and then Christian and his brother arrived two years after her.
Upon arrival in the US John worked and lived in an apartment complex as a maintenance worker earning only $ 45 a day. The family did not speak English but were assisted by their cousin Edmir who had arrived in the US five years earlier.
In 2015, Sokoli made history by being the first Albanian to play in American football, the NFL. After a year with the Seattle Seahawks he became part of the league for four years before signing in 2020 with the DC Defenders. In 2021 Christian played in The Spring League for the Alphas being ranked with the main prospect in the NFL.
He will now join the Potsdan Royal squad, thus being one of the league’s favorites after a dominant start to the season.
