There is no deadline for dialogue, but the longer the dialogue process, the more difficult it will be. The US wants an agreement that concludes with mutual recognition.
This was stated by the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Matthew Palmer, who in an interview for Kosovo Public Television, said that the issue of dialogue should be carried out as soon as possible.
As for the Association, Palmer said that the parties involved in the dialogue must respect all the agreements reached so far.
“The parties must respect all the agreements reached. I understand that there are parameters of the Association agreement that need to be discussed, but this should not hinder the process. It will not tell you what Kosovo needs to do. “The Kosovo government decides how to approach this issue,” Palmer said.
He further stated that the decision on constitutional changes, which have been discussed recently, belongs to Kosovo.
“Kosovo must see what its opportunities are, what Kosovo has to give to this process. It’s not easy”.
Regarding the change of borders, Palmer said “I do not think such a thing is on the agenda. It is not up to me to identify the red lines in this process. “The Kosovar side has been quite clear on this issue.”
