Facebook has become the latest company to offer a cloud gaming service on iOS, only this time not through the App Store.
From today iOS users can visit the Facebook Gaming website and add a shortcut to the Progressive Web App (PWA).
Not an elegant solution pr is the same applied by Amazon and Microsoft. When Apple modified the guidelines last September to allow cloud gaming customers on iOS, it said games offered on a streaming service should be downloaded individually from the App Store.
It’s an obligation for Microsoft and Facebook who said that the way Apple handles cloud gaming services is not fair at all.
To add an icon to a web application you need to visit the website and click the “Add to Home Screen” option in the Safari browser. Apple’s instructions for the App Store become a barrier to providing a cloud gaming application.
Developers are prohibited from directing individuals to external websites that have alternative payment systems in addition to that of Apple. For example, if it allowed a cloud gaming app from Facebook in the App Store, games purchased within it would be paid for with Facebook Pay and not with the Apple system, thus bypassing the commission.
