Belarusian dissident journalist Roman Protasevich and his girlfriend have left the prison cell. The BBC, quoting the journalist’s father, suggests that the journalist who was arrested a few days ago has been placed under house arrest.
Also his girlfriend, Sofia Sapega, who was arrested with him will stay at home. Protasevich and Sapega were arrested while traveling on a Raynair aircraft.
authorities in Belarus concocted a plane bomb alert and forced pilots to land at Minsk airport. But after this decision there were harsh reactions from the EU and the US, imposing sanctions on Belarusian officials.
Western countries accuse Belarus that the Ryanair plane that was forced to land in Minsk for an alleged bomb threat is a hijacking plan.
But even though the international pressure is great, the journalist and his girlfriend are facing charges that include organizing mass riots and for which he can be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
