The satellite image from the National Observatory of Athens this morning has made a panorama of the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean.
A big number of forest fires are in progress, mainly in Greece and Turkey releasing large amounts of particles into space. The smoke continues to spread hundreds of miles away from the fires reaching as far as North Africa.
The concentration of dust on Greece is very high reducing air quality. Fog is observed in many areas due to the high presence of particles.
The improvement of this situation is expected to start from Friday with the strengthening of the wind pressure that will remove the particles from the air.
Meanwhile firefighters continue to fight the blaze in Ilia, Greece, and especially on the front near ancient Olympus. The latest information says that the fire reached one kilometer from the Museum of Ancient Olympia, in a parallel line.
The purpose of the fire brigade is to prevent the fire from reaching the International Olympic Academy and the archeological museum. At the same time power outages are reported in the wider area.
According to Prototthema, firefighters make a superhuman effort to stop the front, so as not to cross Cronus Hill.
There are 160 firefighters, 50 vehicles, 6 groups of soldiers operating in the region, who continue to ‘fight’ with the flames, while in the coming hours new aid is expected from the fire brigade, as firefighters arrived from other regions of the country.
