A serious incident was recorded at noon today in the province of Verbania-Cusio-Ossola in Italy. A cable car in Stresa-Mottarone with 11 people inside broke off at its highest point at 1,491 meters and fell.
Italian media report that so far 8 people have been confirmed dead, while 2 children are seriously injured.
A helicopter immediately arrived in the area and sent the two injured children to Turin hospital. According to Italian media, the accident is suspected to have occurred due to the rupture of a cable.
The cable car in the Mottaron area was opened on April 24, which for more than a year has been closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
