A scandal that has left its mark during the rule of Sali Berisha as prime minister, according to Top Channel, is the one related to oil in Virginia. In the years 2007-2009 colossal quantities of crude oil were thrown into the market bringing consequences on the means of citizens.
“They built a scary scheme in Albania where the oil received from Ballshi was stimulated as if it was going for processing abroad while it was thrown all over the Albanian market as pure oil. It was not investigated in depth because an activity of this magnitude could not be done without the support of Berisha government officials “- said Shkëlqim Hajdari, Former Chief Appellate Prosecutor.
After Porto Romano, the name of Berisha’s son-in-law, Jamarbër Malltezi, also appears in the South’s project for “integrated management and cleaning of the coast”. He was the coordinator of the $ 39 million World Bank-funded project. So far everything seemed fine. But the problem was the demolition of dozens of houses of local residents who were taken to the streets without waiting for court decisions.
The World Bank was deceived at the time by accepting project financing after being promised that the buildings would be demolished with the consent of the villagers. The matter became clearer from the cables discovered by Wikileaks where it was stated that the demolition of the buildings was based on a written request of Jamarbër Malltezi addressed to the chief of the construction police.
“That study only aimed to lay the groundwork to clear the area of illegal construction there, then other investments would be made later by companies that had not yet been identified.”
