US billionaire Jeff Bezos will travel into space today on the rocket ship built by his company, Blue Origin. He will be accompanied by his brother, Mark, an 82-year-old pilot, Wally Funk, and an 18-year-old student, Oliver Daemen. Their flight will take 11 minutes.
“Seeing the Earth from space is something that changes you. “It changes your relationship with this planet, with humanity,” Bezos told CBS television.
“It’s something I have wanted to do my whole life,” he added.
Bezos founded his Blue Origin space company in 2000 to develop space flight tourism. Blue Origin is expected to start selling tickets soon after the Bezos flight, but the company has not yet revealed the cost of a trip.
Bezos, head of Amazon – the online sales company – is one of the richest people in the world. According to the American magazine Forbes, his net worth is 186.2 billion dollars.REL
