He stayed in Serbia and Albania, met politicians, went out and enjoyed the nightlife, looked for business opportunities. Since he is no longer in the US administration, it is not clear in whose interest Grenell is now working. The former US envoy posted a video on Instagram as he celebrated at a nightclub with Finance Minister Sinisa Mali. He also posted photos on Instagram with Albanian President Ilir Meta and Prime Minister Edi Rama, and then photos from the coast, giving very few details of what he was doing in Albania. VOA tried to contact him through former collaborators in the administration to learn more. The Carnegie Mellon University Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies responded that Grenell no longer worked there, leaving him with that.
During his visit to Albania, Grenell gave an interviewer stating that he was engaged in promoting foreign investment and economic cooperation in the region.
“President Trump’s vision for the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia was about creating new jobs, the economy and the idea was for the Balkan region to prosper… But what we want to see is the continuation of that investment, so I I’m here. I am in the private sector and we are looking for opportunities to create a private sector for foreign investment in the Balkans,Said Grenell.
As a former Trump aide, he has been engaged in advising and lobbying for years, so continuing such an engagement would not be surprising to him. Prior to joining the Trump administration, Grenell founded the consulting firm Capitol Media Partners in 2009, which operated until 2017. The studio represented clients from China, Somalia, Iran – but was not reported to authorities. The Washington Post once reported that Grenell’s company also represented an organization funded by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s party.
His last position in the administration was the acting director of the National Intelligence Services. After finishing his administration job, it was speculated that Grenell would run for governor of California, but it never happened. He appears occasionally on Trump television, where he also moderates. They even call him “Little Trump” because of the way he works and thinks.
