Alketa Berzani, former director of the Research Institute ‘Data Centrum’ says that Albanians and Greeks have different opinions about each other according to a recent study.
Referring to a questionnaire with 1200 interviewees in Albania and the same number in Greece, Mrs. Berzani said that Greece is valued by Albanians in terms of the state that has the most progress in democracy and the implementation of human rights compared to other countries in the region.
While in this aspect, Greek citizens evaluate Albania as the last compared to other countries in the region.
But the panorama of the appreciation that the Greeks have for the Albanian people is presented differently, since Mrs. Berzani states that “48% of Greeks are positive about the Albanian people and individual.”
“Greeks define Albanians as very hardworking and family-oriented, but somewhat less polite and honest,” she said.
When it comes to the obstacles that exist between the two countries for a closer relationship, Albanians and Greeks express different opinions.
“Bilateral relations are assessed as improved, but each party has individual perceptions on issues that hinder further friendship. For Albanians, it is the sea border and the Cham issue and the existence of the law of war. Whereas in the prism of Greek citizens these issues take 1 to 3% importance. On the other hand, for the Greeks, the Albanian expansionism (Greater Albania), the issue of the Greek minority and the cultural change are appreciated “, concluded Mrs. Berzani.
