At the invitation of the Minister of Defense Armend Mehaj, today in Kosovo will arrive for a visit the American general and great friend of the Albanians, Wesley Clark.
General Clark will be received at the Ministry of Defense at the highest military ceremonial level and that of state protocol.
After the meeting, Defense Minister Armend Mehaj and General Clark will hold a press conference.
During the day, General Clark will also meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Donika Gërvalla, the Prime Minister Albin Kurti, the President Vjosa Osmani and the Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Glauk Konjufca.
Clark was Commander-in-Chief of NATO European Forces at the time of the intervention in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY), which began on March 24, 1999, and ended on June 10, 1999.
The intervention was preceded by fighting between the then Serbian military and police forces and the Kosovo Liberation Army, as well as the mass killings, deportations and persecutions of Kosovo Albanians in the period 1998-1999.
The decision to intervene in NATO, without the consent of the United Nations, was taken after unsuccessful negotiations between the delegations of Kosovo and the FRY in Rambouillet and Paris in February and March 1999.
The NATO attacks in the former Yugoslavia lasted 78 days, until the signing of the Kumanovo Agreement, which ended the fighting and led to the withdrawal of Serb forces from Kosovo.
