US President Joe Biden made it clear to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in a phone call that the United States “will take whatever action is necessary” to stop cyber-attacks by Russia.
A journalist asked Biden after the conversation if Russia would face the consequences and he said: “Yes”. “I have made it very clear that the United States expects that when a cyber attack comes from its territory, even if it is not state-sponsored, they must act, if we give them enough information about who it is,” he said. White House.
When asked by a reporter if the United States could attack the servers used by the hackers, Biden said, “Yes.” The Kremlin immediately claims that Washington has not contacted Moscow about the cyber attacks. Despite the readiness of the Russian side to jointly crack down on the activity, an unidentified American official denied Russia’s claims, saying that the Biden administration has made “multiple, specific demands for action.”
The phone call between the two leaders comes less than a month after their meeting in Geneva, when Biden warned against continued cyber-attacks coming from Russia on US businesses and infrastructure. A new cyber attack linked to the Russia-based group REvil caused major problems last weekend, affecting 1,500 businesses.
The hackers also managed to extort $ 11 million from JBS SA, the world’s largest meat processor.
