President Joe Biden sent his draft budget for fiscal year 2022 to Congress on Friday, detailing the spending and projects he envisions with a total value of $ 6 trillion. This draft budget represents a significant increase in spending on international aid, diplomacy and climate change, while including a modest increase in defense spending.
The US will continue to have the largest military budget in the world with nearly $ 715 billion for the Pentagon, based on the White House proposal. But that amount represents only a 1.7% increase over last year’s budget and was immediately criticized by hardline Republicans in Congress who called it “totally insufficient.”
Regarding the massive amount of the proposed budget, President Biden wrote that these projects are presented in the spirit of his promise to Congress in April that “America is on the move again and democracy has proven to deliver on the promises and dreams of the American people. “The United States is committed to winning the race for the 21st century.”.
The 1,700-page document with graphics, charts and accompanying texts reflects President Biden’s willingness to work with allies, as well as a marked departure from the previous administration of President Trump, who did not value multilateral cooperation in American foreign policy./VOA
