The United States has congratulated Kosovo on repatriating its citizens from conflict zones in Syria, saying Kosovo is a leader in the fight against terrorism and extremism.
On Saturday, July 17, Kosovo repatriated 11 citizens from the conflict zones in Syria.
“The return of these citizens demonstrates Kosovo’s willingness to take responsibility for its citizens, while setting an example for others. Kosovo is a leader in the fight against terrorism and extremism “, it is said in a Twitter post of the American Embassy in Prishtina.
On Saturday, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla said that with the return of its citizens from Syria, Kosovo fulfills its responsibilities to its citizens, but also to the Global Coalition for defeating the militant group Islamic State.
Kosovo has been part of this coalition since 2014.
Among the returnees are a woman and ten children.
About 400 Kosovo citizens have traveled to Syria and Iraq since 2011, when the conflict erupted.
Since then, over 240 citizens have returned.
At the end of last month, according to the Kosovo Police, there were still about 100 Kosovar citizens in Syria and Iraq – among them men, women and children./REL
