Subscribing to Twitch has its advantages because it tells your favorite broadcasters that you are supporting them. However subscriptions are not built in a way to reflect a global audience.
The platform has decided to change the subscription model so that people get prices close to their standard of living.
Twitch is an American company and the charging scheme is simple: $ 4.99 for Tier 1 subscription.
If someone lives outside the US and wants to subscribe, Twitch automatically converts the $ 4.99 cost into local currency.
It all works quite well on paper, but in practice there is a big problem. Different countries of the world have different living costs and different exchange rates. For some countries of the world, a Tier 1 subscription has the same financial impact as for an American user, for others it has a dramatic effect on their revenue.
That’s why in Europe the number of active users who support creators is 50% lower than in North America. In Latin America it is 80% lower.
Thus Twitch wants to change costs to reflect the economy of each user who buys the subscription.
Instead of converting $ 4.99 into local currency, TwitCh will change the price to bring it up to par with the impact it has.
Albania is one of the countries expected to benefit from this cost reduction, and Twitch has set it at list of places where it will apply local prices. / PCWorld Albanian
