The driver of a bus lost his life after the vehicle he was driving went off the road and fell from about 6 meters high. The gruesome event happened on the Italian island of Capri. The bus ended up on an overcrowded beach where vacationers were sunbathing. Italian media write that some of the vacationers, frightened by the loud noise, dived into the sea to find shelter.
Italian authorities said the driver lost his life shortly after the accident due to a heart attack. It remains unclear whether he suffered a heart attack before or after the accident. There were 12 people on the bus, along with the driver, at the time of the crash.
ANSA writes that a total of 28 people were injured in this event, who were taken to hospital. Most of the injured, including tourists from France and Libya, were slightly injured. They were not on the bus, but were injured by debris caused by the vehicle falling. 4 of the injured, including a little boy, were airlifted to a hospital in Naples.
The causes of the serious accident are not yet known. Authorities have launched an investigation.
