With a total of 9018 points (new Olympic record) Canadian Damian Warner yesterday won the gold medal in the ten-pointer being the first in the history of the Summer Olympics to cross the 9,000-point mark.
The 31-year-old from London-Ontario is also the first athlete from Canada to win the gold medal in this competition, leaving behind American Kevin Mayer, the world record holder with 9126 points. In Rio in 2016 Warner had won the bronze medal. He received the same medal at the last world athletics championship.
Among the 10 races, the Canadian athlete was ranked first in the 100m, 110m hurdles and long jump. Meanwhile, in discus throws and 1500 he managed to be in the top 5 securing first place and realizing the greatest achievement in his sporting career.
