The state of Sinaloa in Western Mexico is home to the most powerful drug cartel in the country. Rafaela Martinez Terrazas, a plastic surgeon, has shown how drug traffickers in the country cause women to become obsessed with plastic surgery.
According to BBC the doctor has said that most women seek intervention as she calls them ‘narco-aesthetic’. The requirements are for small waist, wide hips and big buttocks and big chest. These requests are made directly by narco-traffickers who ‘customize’ their desires and bring in women, to whom they pay any operating costs.
Dr. Rafaela said that the average age is from 30 to 40 but there are many others with young people up to 18 years old. She says that she often receives phone calls from drug traffickers who tell her that they have started girls to make aesthetic interventions and emphasize that the doctor should do them according to their request and not the wishes of the girls who intervene.
A man can send for plastic surgery about 30 women a month and only one operation costs $ 6,500 and the doctor has shown that money is generally paid in cash as it comes from drug trafficking.
Rafaela says that girls donate their bodies to drug traffickers for 6 months if they pay for their plastic surgeries, but even after 6 months they find it difficult to separate because as the girls say, they are treated like goddesses by traffickers and that makes them feel very good.
