Epidemiologist Ilir Alimehmeti is convinced that people who have passed COVID-19 are less at risk of becoming infected with the Delta variant.
Invited to the show ‘Ditë e re’, Alimehmeti said that this variant, which has spread to many countries around the world, leaves no consequences behind.
Alimehmeti also called on all those who have not passed Covid-19, to be vaccinated, in order to be as protected as possible from the variant that has a 40% higher transmissibility than the British variant.
“The Delta name will disappear very soon. If we look at all the variants of Covid-19, they have the same mutations and the discussion is their combination. This is called the homoplastic phenomenon, homoplasia are convergent mutations. Unlike Sars, this has very low mortality, and this has been declining over time, but transmissibility has been very high. When we talk about relative risk this risk has started to decline. When we talk about absolute risk, because 2% of 2000 people fall to 20 people, but 0.3% of 1 million people fall much more. We must therefore consider both. Personal risk is seen as relative.
According to a study the Delta variant is 40% more transmissible, but on the other hand the symptoms are much milder and somewhat different from the other variants.
