Eriselda Sefa will be the new mayor of Lushnja.
Her appointment comes just days after former Socialist mayor Fatos Tushe was arrested by the SPAK Special Prosecution on charges of corruption and violating equality in tenders.
Immediately after his arrest, Prime Minister Rama distanced himself from Fatos Tushe and signed his dismissal.
The other deputy mayor, Gentian Nushi, was also running for mayor of Lushnja, but he withdrew from the race and refused to be elected mayor, as he holds the post of SP mayor. With 24 votes in favor, the Municipal Council has elected Eriselda Sefa as the new mayor.
The SPAK file states that Fatos Tushe and Flamur Peqini, acting director of the Public Property Enterprise, in cooperation with officials and other persons, have favored the company “Euro Alb shpk” with administrator Bujar Murati in the procurement for the rehabilitation of the canal irrigators of the villages of Bishqethëm and Bitaj, Kolonjë Administrative Unit, with a fund of ALL 28.5 million.
Along with Fatos Tushen and Peqin, several other officials of the Municipality of Lushnja were arrested.
