The list of candidates for the post of Governor General of Canada is ready
Minister for Intergovernmental Affairs Dominic LeBlanc has stated that a shortlist of candidates for the post of Governor General of Canada is ready and that it will be available to Prime Minister Trudeau in a few days. The list was prepared by an advisory committee consisting of Inuk chief Nathan Obed, Rector of the University of Montreal Daniel Jutras and Post Inter Canada director Souromitra Sanatani. The Queen’s deputy has been vacant since January 2021, when former Governor Julie Payette resigned following the publication of a report denouncing the tense working climate between her and the administration. From that moment on, the position of Governor General continues to be held temporarily by the President of the Supreme Court of Canada Richard Wagner.
