The last days of Donald Trump in the White House were a total chaos, as in Congress the Democrats had taken the second initiative for his dismissal for the actions and inactions of the President during the January 6 riots in the Capitol.
A few days before becoming the former President, Trump was using the remaining time to reward his loyalists during his 4-year term at the helm of the US.
Again, even in the midst of those last wild days, there was a sense that no matter how bad those events that looked to the public looked, out of his sight and behind the doors of power it was even worse. These would not have been made public, before Trump left that office and the journalists rummaged.
That brings us to Tuesday, when two long-awaited books went on sale, Michael Bender’s “Frankly, We Did Win This Election” and Mcihael Wolff’s “Landslide” and a book. the third, “I Alone Can Fix It” by Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker is expected to be out within a week.
All three books focus on Trump’s final year in office, and all three represent the horrific description of the President’s panorama, consumed by personal hatred and unwilling to consider the limits his predecessors had set for themselves in that office.
The stories that have come to the surface show a frightening panorama. Trump seeking the execution of anyone who had leaked the news that he had taken refuge in the White House bunker as Black Lives Matter protesters marched on Washington Street after the assassination of George Floyd in May 2020. The explosive reaction where Arizona voted for Joe Biden . Anger at former chief prosecutor Bill Barr for imaginary allegations of election fraud. A high-pitched clash with Chief of Staff General Mark Milley over the donated response to the BLM protests that had erupted across the country in the summer of 2020.
There are other stories that have emerged from these books and others that readers and journalists will discover once they get their hands on these books, being able to do their own research on what happened in the last days of Donald Trump as President of the USA.
All of these stories represent a big problem: Yes, each of them is terrifying, but when the nature of the news is cyclical it is. Even as I was writing this article, I was having difficulty remembering those events that came out of the books separately.
The events that came out of these books spurred impatience, but even more so marketing and sales before the books were published. Such occurrences are usually brief, appear for a moment in the political universe, enjoy their fame, and then disappear into the vast mass of news that is consumed.
In fact, it is important not to get caught up in a particular story that has or will come out of those books, but instead we need to take a step back and see the reality of the great panorama shown here… and this is the reality:
In the face of a health crisis that occurs once a century, Donald Trump not only mismanaged basic lessons, such as testing and masks, but worked diligently to undermine public trust in the doctors, epidemiologists, and public health experts who were trying to keeps Americans safe.
Unable to accept the election defeat, Trump tried to use the powers given to him by the office, including the Department of Justice, in an attempt to find imaginary evidence of fraud. It created the environment in which a good portion of Americans believed that the election was a big lie and incited violence on January 6th.
Trump, who throughout the campaign repeated that he had done more for African-Americans than any other president in U.S. history since Abraham Lincoln, failed to understand the purpose of the Black Lives Matter protests. He saw these protests as nothing more than revolts against him and tried to use the military in states where these protests were more massive.
This is the total, a man unworthy of the Presidency. This is not a one-sided statement, it is a fact-based statement about the clear portrait of man and the way he behaved while in the most powerful office in the world. A man who with the inability to understand the importance and sanctity of the office he held and threatened to destroy this sanctity for those who would believe him. A man who was, without the slightest doubt, an active danger to any American, whether he was his opponent, or his supporter.
This should be taken from these books. This is the forest among the trees and this is the truth that voters need to hear if Trump is trying to regain the Presidency in 2024.
