A group of law enforcement agencies have cracked down on DoubleVPN, a virtual private network which has been used by cyber gangs to hide traces and spread ransomware.
The VPN service was shut down on Tuesday as part of an operation involving the US, Canada and several European countries who jointly confiscated servers belonging to DoubleVPN.
Coordinated action follows the Biden administration’s promise to fight cybercrime and the spread of ransomware.
Ransomware attacks have been devastating for many companies, businesses and even government agencies. With DoubleVPN for $ 25 users can disguise their location and encrypt web traffic.
This VPN service has long served as a safe haven for hackers from whom cyber attacks started.
The operation has been coordinated for several months and according to Europol at least since October 2020. / PCWorld Albanian
