New York Governor Andrew Como signed an executive order declaring a state of “emergency catastrophe” due to violence in the state.
Andrew Como said they “went from one epidemic to another.” “We went from coronavirus to an epidemic of armed violence. “More people are dying from gun violence than from COVID-19,” Cuomo told a news conference.
The announcement follows a series of holiday weekend shootings in cities across the US. Cuomo said he wants everyone to understand the scale of the problem.
Gun violence is a public health crisis.
Today I announced a strategy to combat gun violence in both the short and long term using a public-health approach.

As he said, the state will establish the Office for the Prevention of Armed Violence within the Ministry of Health of this federal state.
“Fighting armed violence means removing illegal weapons from the streets,” Cuomo wrote on Twitter.
He adds that 74 percent of the weapons used in New York City were purchased outside the state.
And the bills are signed!
