The European Union is expected to soon unveil plans for a digital portfolio that will serve all citizens of member states and provide them with access to public and private services from a single account.
According to the Financial Times, the European Union will make the plans public on June 2, 2021. With this portfolio, citizens from 27 member countries have universal access to where they can store payment information, documents and access services.
For example, users can keep their driver's license in their wallet or use it to pay rent or access government services.
Currently 19 member states have digital IDs but most are not adapted to work with each other. The new system will not be mandatory but senior European officials hope it will be a positive approach to increase the use of digital services.
The app will be accessed through secure methods like fingerprint or retina scan of the eye. The portfolio will become operational within the next 12 months. / PCWorld Albanian
