The Court of Appeals reacts after the rape of Judge Arqile Basho.
“We, the magistrates of the jurisdiction of the Vlora Appeal, express our deep concern regarding the violent act of the litigants against Judge Arqile Basho dated 15.07.2021, broadcast during informative editions on television and strongly condemn any act that violates the security of magistrates.
The chronicle uttered unethical language and insulting language towards the judge of the case. Such acts pose a serious threat not only to magistrates, but to the entire justice system and the fundamental ideals of an open society and the rule of law.
We express our unwavering support to Judge Arqile Basho and all members of the judicial system staff to ensure their safety, so that they can live and exercise their duty without fear of threats from the enemies of justice.
We express our gratitude for the close cooperation and immediate response of law enforcement agencies to the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of such violent acts, with the aim of punishing them and preventing such serious events.
By its nature, judicial activity causes dissatisfaction with one or the other party, but in a state of law, the legal remedy to challenge a court decision is to appeal to a higher court, according to the legislation in force, not verbal violence or physical to the magistrate.
We bring to the attention of the public that we respect the irreplaceable role of the media in informing the public about the activity of the judicial system, but on the other hand, the media must respect the dignity of the court and magistrates, by not conveying information that contains language or offensive images, which tarnish the image of the judge. Respect for the court and the figure of the magistrate serves both to strengthen justice and to facilitate effective communication with the public about the operation of the judicial system.
Guided by the principles of professionalism, transparency, honesty, accountability and reliability, we express our commitment to restore public confidence in the judicial system, which has as one of its main objectives the strengthening of the foundations for improving the judiciary’s relationship with the media, in every case guaranteeing mutual respect “, it is said in the statement.
