On the day when dozens of MPs were saying goodbye in Parliament, the Ambassador of the European Union, Luigi Soreca, and the ambassadors of EU countries in Albania called the leader of the Democrats, Lulzim Basha, away from the presence of the media.
It was EU chief diplomat Luigi Soreca himself who shared the first details of the meeting with the opposition leader. Through a post on “Twitter”, the ambassador explained that there was a long discussion with the leader of the Democrats, where the focus was on the current political situation after the April 25 elections, Albania’s integration into the EU, and Justice Reform.
“Long discussion today between the EU Ambassador in Tirana and the leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha. In the function of the new legislature, where the opposition will play a decisive role, we exchanged views on the current political situation after the elections, EU integration, media and Justice Reform “, writes Ambassador Soreca.
After the ambassador, the leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, also reacted on social networks. The latter noted that for the democratic party remains the main priority of Albania’s integration into the European Union, in this context will be political decision-making.
“Fruitful discussions today with the ambassadors of the European Union countries. Albania’s European integration has been and remains the main priority of the Democratic Party, so we will do everything for our country to move forward on this journey so important for our citizens. “For us, the EU means free vote, independence of institutions, freedom and independence of the media, separation of politics from crime and fight against corruption”, wrote Basha.
Meanwhile, it seems that during the discussions the views on the April 25 elections were not the same as those of the EU chief diplomat.
Therefore, Basha in his post emphasizes that for the DP April 25 had nothing to do with democracy, so he does not call it a closed chapter, but will continue to follow the legal ways to punish the distorters of the will of the citizens.
“Without these, there can be no development, no integration, no democracy. April 25 had nothing to do with democracy and for the Democratic Party can not be called a closed chapter. Therefore, we will demand until the end the investigation of electoral crimes, the punishment of the guilty and the return of legitimacy and democracy in the country “, continued Basha’s post.
The DP has warned that it will lead the April 25 elections to the Constitutional Court and the Strasbourg Court.
