French conceptualist artist Christian Boltanski has died in Paris at the age of 76.

Boltanski also worked as a sculptor and photographer.

He was considered a self-taught artist.

Born in Paris in 1944, with his Jewish father, Boltansk’s work was about the art of memory, thus fighting against oblivion and oppression.

He also made a name for himself as an artist, in Germany.

In the mid-1970s, he participated in the “Documenta” exhibition in Kassel.

An installation by the artist can be seen at the Voelklingen Ironworks, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Saarland region of Germany.
