Authorities in Greece have warned that in the coming days the situation of fires in the country will become even more difficult. Defense Minister Nikos Hardalias stated that citizens should follow the instruction to avoid movements towards areas that are at risk from fires.
During 24 hours the latter identified a total of 118 fires across the country.
The fire in Evia continues to remain active, while 165 firefighters, 58 vehicles and air force are fighting to extinguish the flames.
Hardalias stated that Greece has received assistance from Cyprus and Sweden through the European Civil Protection Mechanism.
“We are still fighting a titanic battle on many fronts. Our ally in 112. Another major ally turned out to be the Dryades program, under Civil Protection, and facilitated the passage during firefighting. “In Ancient Olympia, the road network was maintained, a fact that facilitates the operation of firefighters.”, he said.
However, tomorrow is expected to be a difficult day in most parts of the country. “The coming days will be more difficult,” he said, urging citizens to follow the authorities’ instructions.
Currently the most problematic hotbeds in Greece continue to be those in Ancient Olympia and Evia. In both areas, residents have been evacuated as fires have engulfed several homes.
