Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the general manager of Bayern Munich, left the place to Oliver Kahn and on June 30 he will officially leave. His farewell closes a 30-year era, which includes the most successful period in the history of the Bavarian club.
In 2013 and 2020 the Bavarians managed to win “triples”, something that had never happened before, while in 2001 they won the Champions only. Rummenigge, interviewed by Bild, is convinced that the triumphs are also the result of his work and that of other executives:
“In the last 12 months we have won 7 titles, including the most prestigious as the Champions League. With President Hainer, Kahn as the new CEO, Salihamidzic as the sporting director and Nagelsmann as the coach, we are also well structured for the future.
Financially we are in better shape, despite the coronavirus. On June 30, we will communicate a very respectable result regarding the budget. “I am calm, convinced that this is the right time to leave.”

Since becoming the club’s CEO in 2002, before holding other positions, many champions have arrived at Bayern. However, there are two signatures that Rummenigge is most proud of:
“Neuer, who arrived in 2011 for 20 million euros and Lewandowski, who was taken in 2014 for free. That was the recipe for success: after the best goalkeeper in the world, we got the best center-forward. “This has been the basis for living this last decade, which is the best in the history of the club.”
Over the years, however, there have also been painful transfers: “I think of Kroos, who was technically heavy. In 2014 we sold it to Real Madrid for 30 million euros. However, at that point, from an economic standpoint, it was a significant sale.
There are stages, in which Bayern must also go through, because it is important to put money in the coffers. A similar argument can now be made with Alaba; an extraordinary player and guy, but keeping him would cost us a lot ”.

Although in the last two years Hoeness and Rummenigge have left their posts, the future will not be easier for opponents: “Bayern will create something new. Competitors should not have high hopes. We are all interchangeable. “This is valuable for the players, the coaches, as well as for me.”
With 14 championships won as CEO and two Champions, Rummenigge is more than happy with the results achieved. However, there is still a great deal of regret: “In 2012, we lost the Champions League final at home to Chelsea. This is the only wound that has not healed. I wish Bayern win such a final at home, sooner or later. Maybe already in 2022… ”
From a personal point of view, he has only one wish: “I would like to experience a match between the fans”. When the stadiums reopen it will be possible. And he will see from the reaction of the people that the balance of his work, once the news of his farewell is processed, is positive for everyone.
