The culture of celebrating the most epic defeat, as the most triumphant victory, is very old in this region of false myths. This scenario directed by “hi tech” to replay this Balkan history, even in the next National Assembly of the DP, for the good fortune of our opposition failed. Had it not been for Mark Markut’s proposal to re-establish the DP, it is certain that the feast of selling the loss as a victory would have been the last for the Democrats.
Because the loss of the DP and the opposition in the April 25 elections was of historic proportions, even what was attempted to be played on the stage of the Palace of Congresses was a farce of proportional proportions. Lulzim Basha’s speech became the locomotive that dictated not only the rhythm, but also the destination of everyone who would climb the podium after him, through the art of saying the same thing in other words.
His political discourse, body language, gestures, dressing, combing and smiling as if of an eternal victor, almost seemed to be able to cover him with the sieve of propaganda tricks, his latest catastrophe of permanent losers. “To see failure as a victory”, was the caption that Lulzim Basha put on the result of Edi Rama, now that the Prime Minister is getting ready to announce after a few weeks the list of his third government in a row since 2013.
That is enough to understand that Lulzim Basha wants the Albanians to see him as a winner even though he will stay in opposition for 12 years in a row, while his opponent as a loser, although he will continue to rule without stopping until 2025. And when the master of opposition affairs reads backwards the verdict that the sovereign gave him with a vote, why not do the same for all the others below him who have already entered an unprecedented contest of who and what to say in otherwise the same ?!
Speakers who rose after the Chairman of the Democratic Party, began to sing in iso, how Edi Rama had lost the election. How the Socialists had suffered their biggest electoral defeat in 30 years. How their leadership, though gifted, should have been more proud than ever before in the history of the PD. How they had all managed to win where they had lost and thus continue and continue to remain steadfast in opposition again!
If any UFO had come down in those hours, to watch all that show over that hall, they would have envied those 7,000 delegates (as it was officially said) in that hall that only occupies… 2300 people (?!) And with surely, he would think that the pluralistic democracy that the Albanians did not want to live in, is a political system where the one who comes out in the minority is called the majority and the one who wins is called a big loser like Edi Rama!
It is the tragic show that has been played on the stage of the Balkan Theater for 630 years, while the Serbs celebrate as their victory, the defeat suffered by the joint anti-Ottoman coalition in the battle of Fushë Kosovë in 1389. When they could not learn from history, it repeats the Serbs 6 centuries later, when Slobodan Milosevic triumphantly celebrated the defeat in 1989. Until 10 years later, in 1999, his army suffered the heaviest defeat leading to the eventual disintegration of the former Yugoslavia and the overthrow of his forever from power.
The ugly miniature of this story was seen reviving in a comic version, where part of the show was the triumphant reception reserved for Sali Berisha in the hall, after it was declared “non grata” by the US State Department for “acts of corruption that undermine democracy ”. Mark Mark put the well-deserved grade on this ridiculous farce when he told him face to face the bitter but healing truth about a political party. The example he mentioned, that Gaz Bardhi announced his victory in Elbasan as everyone knows that he lost, was also the most striking caption of that fake photo.
Truth is one and only one. And he had the intellectual courage, political clarity and civic concern only Mark Marku to say it out loud, making the correct radiograph of the real situation where the Albanian PD and opposition are today. Only the re-establishment of the DP and its values can lead it to real victories tomorrow, to really bring it back to power. Otherwise, she will need that with Lulzim Basa at the helm, to continue to celebrate forever as to this day, all losses as a victory!
