Pope Francis has written a letter to an American priest named James Martin, who supports LGBTQ Catholics.
The Pope has given strong support to the priest Fr James Martin SJ and hailed it as an important step towards a comprehensive Church approach to the LGBT community. He thanks Fr. Martin for his “pastoral zeal” and “ability to be close to people” and supports the LGBTQ Catholic community by saying ‘God is the father of all’.
The Pope’s words will give encouragement to LGBT Catholics, many of whom were shocked by the Vatican’s doctrinal decision earlier this year to ban Church blessings for same-sex relationships because God ‘cannot bless this sin’.
After the Pope sent the letter, Fr Martin posted it on ‘Twitter’. “It’s a beautiful message of encouragement to all who work with LGBT Catholics and to LGBT Catholics themselves. he said of the note. The Pope allows recipients of similar letters to allow if they wish to make them public.
Pope Francis @Pontifex has sent a beautiful letter on the occasion of the Outreach LGBTQ Catholic Ministry Webinar, which happened yesterday, expressing his support for this ministry and encouraging us to imitate God’s “style” of “closeness, compassion and tenderness”… pic.twitter.com/O9nTftoLDi
