The Minister of Health in Kosovo, Arben Vitia, said on Thursday that the influx of patients seeking medical help in Deçan has decreased, with symptoms of poisoning.
After a visit to the Main Family Medicine Center in this municipality, he said that the authorities are waiting for some additional results, to understand what caused the poisoning.
“Some of the results have come out, some of the other results we are waiting for, because for some results it takes time to plant battery cultures, and some of the other samples will be sent abroad for more specific analysis,” he said.
The mass poisoning in Deçan, over the weekend, has caused this municipality to declare a state of emergency.
According to the data of the Directorate of Health in Deçan, since Saturday at the Family Medicine Center in Deçan, over 1,500 people have sought help, while hundreds of them have the same symptoms of poisoning.
The National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo (NIPHK) announced on Monday that out of six tested water samples, in two of them were found suspicious colonies of bacteria.
However, according to the director of NIPHK, Naser Ramadani, laboratory tests should continue and the exact cause of this poisoning has not yet been determined.
The regional water supply company “Hidrodrini”, on Thursday repeated the findings of the NIPHK, saying that the samples of the analysis show that the physico-chemical and bacteriological analyzes have gone within the allowed limits, based on the standards of the European Union.
This institution has requested that some water samples from the wells that the residents possess in that area be tested, in order to avoid possible dilemmas./rel
