Over 1,500 people showed up at the Deçan health center in Kosovo after the appearance of TV poisoning signs which were initially thought to come from drinking water.
From the data published by the National Institute of Public Health, it was concluded that some bacteria were found in the water, but that these analyzes were not accepted by the Regional Water Company “Hidrodrini”, who requested the repetition of water analyzes.
The coordinator at the Water Monitoring Center at the Kosovo Institute of Public Health, Burbuqe Nushi-Latifi, spoke about this situation and the suspicions as to why the poisoning occurred.
She in an interview in the show “Confrontation” with the editor-in-chief Muhamet Hajrullahu in Telegrafi.com said that the case is still under investigation and there are still suspicions about the poisoning in Deçan.
Nushi- Latifi during the interview said that the case in Deçan was notified on July 10, Saturday.
“On Saturday we were informed that there are some patients with symptoms of gastritis and normal suspicion goes to water, that it is a professional procedure in these cases of hydric diseases, first the water is analyzed. On the first night, about 200 cases were reported at the Family Medicine Center in Deçan, and these 200 cases in the following days have increased and reached somewhere up to 1,500, and maybe even up to 2,000 are unfiltered cases. which means unfiltered that the same patient has been notified three times, the first time to complain, the second time to receive the infusion and the third time also“, She said
Continuing the conversation, Nushi-Latifi stated that the latest report they have received from the Regional Center in Peja, says that to date 557 patients have been received from the municipality of Deçan, who have expressed health concerns.
“They had symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and at the same time 861 epidemiological surveys of people who do not have anxiety, but have drunk the same water, so they are a control sample. We have not had serious cases, he was not stating that water could not not participate, why I am saying this is that we at the Institute are still researching. Every day we are doing samples, doing surveys, finding the sources and the cause. Regarding the quality of water, all this has happened in an own system, which supplies about seven villages of Deçan, this water did not have chlorine, it is a system built by the municipality. There are failures from the beginning, there have been delays in functioning, there is still no proper chlorination in that place, despite the fact that the water is source. Based on scientific data, no major pollution is expected compared to surface waters“, She said.
