A Tanzanian lawmaker has been expelled from parliament for wearing trousers deemed ‘too tight’.
Condester Sichwale, a minister of the ruling party, was ousted from parliament after her colleague Hussein Amar complained about her dress.
“The dress code is very clear, but there are sisters here who do not come modestly dressed. MP on my right wing for example. She is okay with the blouse, but her pants are tight. Parliament is a mirror of society and here we have some sisters who are lawmakers and who dress strangely. What are they telling our society? ” – said the deputy Amar.
“Go dress well and then come back.” was the request made to Minister Sichwale. She went out but it remains unclear if she came back again that day.
The reprimand has provoked a harsh and angry reaction with a group of female MPs calling it ‘unfair’ and apologizing.
