In Greece, from 2019, the number of migrants coming mainly from the Middle East has decreased from 75 thousand to 15700 in 2020. A decrease of 78%, where of course the pandemic prevention measures have a great weight, which has blocked the roads of the passage of clandestines.
But it also has to do with a significant advancement of technology targeted at the fight against clandestine immigration.
The guards who patrol blindly the border that separates Greece from Turkey, have for some time been equipped with a device that apparently has the dimensions of a laptop, but that is able to repel anyone who comes in front of it, thanks to the noise it produces. An unbearable and focused noise, with the power of a jet engine.
The European Union has financed with almost 4 billion euros the new technologies in the framework of security and prevention, which includes noise weapons.
But there are others, used in about 200 kilometers of the wall erected by Athens in cooperation with Frontex, since the EU border protection agency is becoming a real security force.
In that corner of Europe, devices such as night vision goggles, long-distance cameras, various sensors analyzed by an advanced artificial intelligence center are already in use, where the use of satellites, drones, and underwater vehicles is not lacking.
