US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Palmer stressed that the US and the EU see an urgent need to finalize an agreement within the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
Palmer in an interview with the media in Kosovo said that a final agreement with mutual recognition is aimed.
“Our goal is to have a comprehensive agreement aimed at mutual recognition between the two countries. It is up to both parties to set the topics that need to be addressed in this meeting. “A meeting between Kurti and Vucic is expected this month. We hope that both sides will work with the EU representative on how to approach the issues they want to achieve.” he said.
Among other things, in his interview, Palmer stressed the need to reach an agreement as soon as possible.
“We and the European Union feel a kind of urgency for this process and we would like the parties to move forward quickly. “The parties must accept that time is precious, that an agreement can be reached as soon as possible.” is expressed among others Palmer.
It is also worth noting that Palmer and the EU envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, paid a visit to Kosovo on Monday, where they met with heads of state and leaders of opposition parties.
From Kosovo, Palmer and Lajcak are expected to travel to Serbia, where they will meet with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Thursday.
