Police and local authorities began evacuating the villages of Rovies and Paleochori this afternoon, on the orders of firefighters.
“The flames are very close to the houses and we have an obligation to save people first and foremost,” said the governor of the Central Greece Region, Fanis Spanos, in Rovies.
Residents in the area received a new message from the emergency number 112 advising them to evacuate Rovies and Paleochori, as they are in danger of fire.
It is not possible to send reinforcements because the roads to Kalamoud, the Monastery of St. David the Elder and Drymonas are blocked.
Earlier, large flames surrounded the village of Damia, as the fire went out of control, surrounding the villages and blocking people and firefighters inside its front.
Firefighting vehicles are blocked in different areas, as the roads between Damia village and Paleochori are no longer passable.
