At the roundtable on the 5th anniversary of the justice reform, US Ambassador Yuri Kim issued strong messages towards the implementation of this reform. While appreciating the work achieved so far, Mrs. Kim said there is still a lot to do.
Among other things, the US Ambassador said that many wanted to block justice reform, but now she is giving her first results. “It’s time to show that justice will prevail over justice.” she concluded her speech.
“It is a very important moment. 5 years ago, it was decided about the justice reform, many Albanians supported it, which shows how much Albania and Albanians want fundamental changes in the justice system. The reform has not been perfect, but we are seeing the results of these efforts. All institutions are already functional, the HJC, the Constitutional, so the institutions are functional. It is also SPAK that is giving results. There has been a fight against corruption, corrupt judges have been overthrown, it is being shown that the law is equal for all. No matter how powerful you think you are, no one is above the law.
This is the hope of all to bring about justice reform properly and to give hope to future generations. We are seeing results, organized crime is being fought.
Some did not want it to happen, but now it is happening a lot will try to stop corruption, it is the duty of Albanians and not foreigners to confirm and do the job. It is time to open a new era, to create a system where Albanians have faith, where justice is sought. You have done a good job, but there is still much to do. The US is with you, and wants to see your work ahead. We will be with you until the end. It’s the right time to celebrate, there is reason to celebrate, much has been achieved, it is time to achieve even more, time to see what we have done well and what we can improve. Let us continue the improvement to make a successful progress. It is time to show that justice will prevaile.” said Ambassador Kim.
