Netflix plans to gain new viewers by expanding the company’s reach to another audience: those who play video games. Very soon the platform will also have a section that will offer video game service.
Video games will also be presented as a regular streaming service offered by the company, but also as a “new programming genre”. The whole idea started when Netflix hired Mike Verdu as vice president of game development at Netflix. Verdu previously worked for Electronic Arts Inc. and Facebook, creating games such as Plants vs. Zombies and Sims mobile games.
Netflix is expected to increase its gaming team and make their streaming service available sooner this coming year. There are (still) no details involving a price increase, which means no additional charges for access to the new feature have been announced.
This innovation in the company ‘s business expansion is Netflix’ s attempt to remain the leading streaming service for all types of entertainment and to increase the number of subscribers to the platform, a number that has slowed down due to many Netflix competitors.
According to experts, it will be “interesting to see how Netflix’s involvement in the gaming industry will shock the industry, competitors or make other broadcasters try to follow in their footsteps.”
