NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has said that the top diplomats of the alliance member countries had a “good discussion” in preparation for the summit of its leaders.
“All allies agree that we now have a historic opportunity to strengthen the transatlantic link and do more together,” Stoltenberg told reporters after the virtual meeting.
Stoltenberg explained that NATO’s 2030 agenda at the June 14 leaders’ summit aims to prepare the alliance for a “new era of growing global competition” with increasingly unpredictable challenges.
The NATO Strategy 2030 will expand the concept of security by addressing the challenges of climate change and focusing on sustainability and technological development.
“I am confident that by the summit we will set an ambitious NATO agenda for 2030,” Stoltenberg said.
Asked about the dispute between the allies over NATO spending, he said that “there is no contradiction between national defense efforts and NATO (commitments)”.
“NATO is the cornerstone of the security and protection of all NATO allies, and spending together is a multiplier of strength and an efficient way of spending,” Stoltenberg said, adding that the budget sends a very clear message to itself. our population and for every possible adversary ”.
