The elected deputy of the Democratic Party, Mark Marku commented, among other things, on the decision of the DASH to declare former Prime Minister Sali Berisha ‘non grata’.
According to the academic, this decision will be to the detriment of the Democratic Party. Marku said that Berisha’s protagonism in Parliament damages the PD leadership. Among other things, Mark Marku stressed that there are no great expectations for the new Parliament, as according to him, MPs depend on the speaker and are not free in their decision-making.
Mark Mark: What I kept in power today stems from reason and heart. I come from the media, I have no profession in politics. When I go there, because I was invited, I did not want to go. I say the things to say, do my job.
How long does it take the DP to do something?
Mark Mark: It will take at least 1 year. If you are going to do something well thought out it takes time, it will be well thought out. The right offers must be found, people must be convinced. This is not done and to deceive people, serious things must be done. We need to open and debate, to say things as they are. Out of 92 PD is not a first party with votes. People are changeable, circumstances are changeable. In this sense it takes time, I do not look for anything fast but thoughtful and precise.
Mr. Berisha was not mentioned during Basha’s speech. The latter has been declared ‘non grata’ by DASH. I wanted to ask you, why was Berisha not mentioned by Basha in his speech?
Mark Mark: There was no reason to mention it. He is the historical leader. Whoever it is, it does not avoid the fact that Berisha has been the historical leader, he has kept the DP in opposition. It has had its problems, but that fact does not change anything.
Does Berisha’s ‘non grata’ announcement harm the DP?
Mark Marku: Yes because it has built a discourse on Doshi and Dako, that since they were declared ‘non grata’ they had to leave politics. This is the problem, first. I have said, the fact that Berisha was declared ‘non grata’ was wrong. For it was declared ‘non grata; a politician with history, influence in society, while the American government does not declare Rama ‘non grata’ who is very dangerous.
Mr. Berisha says I can not wait to return to Parliament, should Berisha be part of the parliamentary group, or should there be a freeze with the DP until everything is clarified?
Mark Marku: If Berisha did, it would greatly facilitate the work of the DP, even with political opponents. But I think the DP will find it difficult to decide that its former chairman be part of the DP. Because the declaration ‘non grata’ is based on several arguments and has no legal value. It is an attitude. You can not tell the former prime minister not to come to Parliament. Even when Berisha was prime minister, I had criticism. One has to think of the thing in the sense that it has been declared ‘non grata’. I think that Berisha’s excessive protagonism damages the DP leadership and is an obstacle in the restructuring of the DP, because Berisha is charismatic, it is difficult to become a DP leader having Berisha there. I think that Berisha and PD have entered into a complicated relationship. The DP will need to have very good relations with the DP and the EU. Rama on the other hand has a lot of lobbying forces.
I want to ask you, because we saw what parliament was, what are your expectations for the opposition that you will see in September?
Mark Marku: Deputies in Parliament do not function because they are subordinate to the chairman. A new relationship needs to be established. Deputies do not perform the function as such. Deputies in parliament are puppets, they are zero.
