Miroslav Lajcak, EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, described the second meeting between Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic as difficult and with little progress.
Lajcak, who along with EU High Representative Joseph Borrell were part of the meeting, said the two delegations discussed some concrete proposals, but the only result he can report is that the dialogue will continue.
“The meeting took place only a month after their first meeting in the framework of the dialogue here in Brussels. The meeting was difficult and demonstrated very different approaches of the two sides to the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia. As a result, we made very little progress today. “Some concrete proposals were discussed, but the only result I can report today is that the dialogue will continue,” he said.
The parties agreed that the lead negotiators will hold meetings on a monthly basis, mediated by the European Union to address current issues and prepare high-level meetings where appropriate.
“Furthermore, the two leaders agreed to meet again in September. For us, the European Union, it is important to emphasize that the European future for Serbia and Kosovo depends on the normalization of their relations. “Therefore, we expect the two sides to work together to overcome the past and resolve all outstanding issues between them,” Lajcak said after the Kurti-Vucic meeting.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Kurti said that he has presented an agreement for peace but that it has been rejected by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, still unread.
Meanwhile, the Serbian president also accused Kurti of going back to the 19th century.
