Russia strongly supports the position that Kosovo is “an inalienable part of Serbia”, said the Speaker of the Serbian Parliament, Ivica Dacic, during an official visit to Moscow.
In a speech to members of the Russian Duma, Dacic said that it was important for Serbia to support Russia in respecting UN Resolution 1244, on the presence of international military forces in Kosovo.
“Today, Russia is the greatest and most influential defender of our supreme national interest, which we defend on the international stage, and it is the preservation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia.”, said Dacic, reports the Balkan Service of Radio Free Europe.
He said Belgrade is holding a constructive dialogue with Pristina and that he wants a compromise that will lead to long-term peace and stability in the region.
Dacic said that Serbia will not allow the solutions to be imposed and to be one-sided.
Referring to the road to the European Union, Dacic said that Serbia wants to join the EU and work in this direction, but, according to him, it will not accept that obstacles are placed on this road, such as the recognition of Kosovo.
Kosovo and Serbia have been engaged in a dialogue for the normalization of relations since 2011.
Talks are expected to continue this month with a meeting between Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
On Tuesday, during a visit to Pristina, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Palmer said that mutual recognition between Kosovo and Serbia should be the main goal of dialogue between the two countries.
