The Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime has set a date for the hearing of the case against Fatmir Mediu. The hearing on the case was scheduled for July 27 with Judge Erion Çela.
The Supreme Court declared incompetent to reopen the case against former Defense Minister Fatmir Mediu. The Supreme Court decided to return the acts of this case to the Court of First Instance Against Organized Crime and Corruption.
It was SPAK that demanded the retrial of Fatmir Mediu, as he accuses him as one of the former officials responsible for the Gerdec tragedy, with 26 killed and hundreds injured, arguing that he is no longer immune and can face justice.
For this tragedy, the prosecution sent 28 defendants to court while Fatmir Mediu, then Minister of Defense, escaped the trial because he had the mandate of deputy. Mihal Delijorgji, president of the Albademi company, Ylli Pinari, director of MEICO and Dritan Minxholli, administrator of the Albademi factory, were the three main defendants in the Gerdec Tragedy.
