Finally breathing for hospitals in Greece. The drop in the number of hospitalizations of patients with Covid-19 has eased the pressure on the national health system and made it possible for public hospitals to resume normal activity, including operations that were delayed during the third wave of the pandemic, Greek media reported.
At two of Athens’ largest hospitals, Gennimatas and Sismanogleio, nearly 40% of the approximately 200 patient rooms dedicated to Covid-19 have been released to serve other patients.
The stagnation of surgeries, meanwhile, is shocking: Evangelismos Hospital alone has about 300 pending heart surgeries. So far, Covid-19 has claimed the lives of 12,277 citizens in Greece while a total of 409,368 have been infected.
