Due to the difficulties that India is going through as a result of the aggravated situation by the coronavirus, the number of victims has exceeded all expectations where there is no place even for the burial of the victims.
CNN Business reports that journalist Om Gaur, has expressed that he is in the middle of the saddest history of his career as a journalist after receiving information that the bodies of thousands of dead bodies were seen sailing on the Ganges River in Bihar which is a place in East India.
After hours of searching, the team found more than 2,000 bodies floating or buried along a 1,100-kilometer (684-mile) stretch of Ganges, which is considered a sacred river for most Hindus. Dainik Bhaskar, one of India’s largest Indian-language newspapers, published its story last week with the headline, “Ganga is a shame.”
“I have never seen anything like it in my 35-year career.” said Gaur.
For weeks, India has been engulfed by a brutal second wave of Covid-19 infections, with millions of new cases. There have been about 300,000 Covid-related deaths recorded by the Ministry of Health since the outbreak of the pandemic, although the current figure is likely to be much higher.
While the number of people dying from the coronavirus has been immense, journalists like Gaur are not just covering the tragedy of the situation. They are also fighting for transparency and accountability from a government that has tried to remove criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his treatment of the pandemic.
